What are his motives? Does he really just want despite how nice he is and what we've shared?

To me, it personally says that he is completely confused about his situation, he needs time away from relationships to get his head straight, but by the sounds of things he has a fear of not being with someone. The fact that he was so quick to go onto the other girl signals that loud and clear.
